    project runway progress
so you have to bring in 3 current items (clothing that you designed and made) along with your portfolio. My sewing machine had crapped out, so last week I bit the bullet and decided to pay to have it fixed. $180 later I am sewing last night, working on the last garment and it binds up again. Friday is the first day of open calls. I will take in the machine today (still under warranty, but how much you want to bet they find something else totally wrong that I have to pay to fix. yikes!) not good to be spending money when I am 3 days from being unemployed. Hopefully they can even fix it in time. I do have my serger that I could use to sew the rest with, but I hate that machine. It is really loud and the chain stitch is too easily pulled out. So do I just buy a new cheap machine, or spend money to get mine fixed? I still have sketches to do for my portfolio, so there is work that I can do while the machine is being repaired. Auditions are open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but I am afraid of the crowds and was hoping to get in first thing on Friday. Maybe I just buy a new machine, sew my project, and then return it?

    project runway
so my boss decided to close the business, which means my last day will be March 31st. it just so happens that Project Runway is having open calls in two weeks in LA so I am going to enter, wish me luck! ps. how's that for timing? so I have decided that I am going to just go ahead and be on the show, win it all, and start my own company. done.

yesterday went to California Adventure park and then to an Angels & Airwaves concert at the House of Blues in Downtown Disney. All in all a very fun but tiring day :) Have been surfing the net at work due to lack of it and it is very very boring. I try to surf stuff that pertains to work, such as fashion trends and comparing the competition's websites. Any other suggestions on how to make work for myself? I have asked my boss for projects but she doesn't have any for me.

    foo fighters rock!
I went to my first foo fighters concert last night and it was AWESOME! One of the top concerts I have ever been to, very entertaining, and they played for a really long time. The best part was when at the beginning the lead singer said, "All you guys that have to work tomorrow morning are fu%^&#@!" And it was so true, we didn't get home until 1am and that 6:30 alarm went off too early. It's a hard life partying like a rockstar on a school night. I am getting to old for this! but it was super fun and I don't regret it!

    all moved in!
so I am all moved into my new bachelorette pad! Movers came on Saturday afternoon and knocked it out in 3 hours. There was some slight damage to a couple of things but nothing major. dings and scrapes happen all the time so I am not too upset. When looking at the apartment it appeared clean, but getting down to the nitty gritty it was filthy. Now, not to men bash those reading this, but I have a theory that men cannot see dirt. So my apartment looks like a man cleaned it. So I spent hours cleaning (or trying to clean) my bathroom. The bathtub has sliding glass doors which were caked with soap scum and that took two passes and some scrubbing with the soap scum cleanser, but the nastiest was the track. I kept scrubbing and rinsing and the black scum of old hair and mildew and grit kept coming out. (I hope no one is eating while reading this!) Funny thing is that now the doors don't slide very well. The gunk was acting as lubricant. Then over the past couple of days I have been defrosting the freezer in the fridge, got that done and the fridge scrubbed out, but it really needs some paint. I plan on using some spray enamel for appliances for the outside to cover the stains, but my main quandary is the metal racks inside. It is a 50's style fridge with metal removable racks, but it looks like the racks have been scrubbed so many times over the years that the finish has deteriorated. Has anyone else ever re-coated fridge racks before? I could use some tips and tricks, thanks!

    ice cream
so my dad was in town last weekend and I made dinner for him. I picked up his favorite ice cream "Butter Pecan". We didn't end up eating it because he was too full. So now I have a gallon of this stuff. As a kid it was not my favorite and even as an ice cream last resort it was passed over. So I have been eating it little by little. it's okaaay, but again, if I felt it wasn't a total waste of $5 i'd pitch it. So I'm eating it and I bought those plain ice cream cones to make it more fun. i also have caramel sauce that I put on it and that makes it even better. I think my main problem with it is that you are sucking on creamy goodness, but then you have to chew these nuts leftover. I have sensitive teeth so chewing on cold nuts isn't fun. so i suck the nuts then chew them. Let the nut jokes commence!

    Next topic...
Work is slow, I hardly see Kevin because he is working 13 hour days 7 days a week now to finish a movie, and my upper back is hurting (either stress or heavy box related or both). My little twin bed is SOOO uncomfortable! The mattress is at least 30 years old, but I am reluctant to buy a new mattress because I would want to buy a sleep number mattress and those are pricey! My queen sized sleep number mattress along with my log bed are at my parents house and there is no room in my new place for the log bed. I might could do the mattress but the frame is way to massive. What was I thinking when I bought it?! Sometimes I think it would have been cheaper to sell off everything in Seattle and just take the cash because hauling this stuff all over the country is more expensive than the actual furniture!

    you people need to post!
Listen here! I like reading more than writing, and I come to this place to see what you are all up to and then... no one is writing! (patchwork girl is the only exception... and the baby blog, well i could use daily pics if it's not too much trouble ;) ) so I will bore you with my life details. my car was scraped in the parking lot at work. Luckily the parking attendant got the business card from the woman who did it. I think more paint came off of her car than actually left mine. so I got a few quotes ranging from $400 to $1300. to fix paint!? No body damage, and I was amazed at how much it cost to do. Should I just get a paint marker and fix it myself? I wonder how hard it could be? One place wanted to charge $25 for the paint marker and $400 for labor. Any thoughts?

    Moving on Saturday!
I am moving to my new bachelorette pad on Saturday, hooray! Now the definition of a bachelor is that it has a bathroom, but no kitchen... You just get a room. Most come with at least a mini fridge. This one comes with a 3/4 size fridge and a hot plate. It has one living area 16' x 14' and then has a separate kitchenette area (no sink, no oven) and then of course a full bathroom with tub. I will have to wash dishes in the bathroom sink, but it will be all mine! I can walk around naked, take a nap in my big chair, and not have to worry about being walked in on unexpectedly! It is right across from a community park with tennis courts, baseball diamond, picnic tables with barbecue pits and summertime pool. All this for $795 a month plus the cost of utilities. I am contemplating not getting cable (thinking this will motivate me to get to those sewing and art projects I keep wanting to do), but I am not sure how addicted I am. I can still watch tv programs at Kevin's house, and I can still rent movies, but if it only costs $10 a month for basic cable... what if there is a natural disaster and I want to watch the news? I saw a bumper sticker that said "Kill your television" and I wonder if I need the down time associated with watching tv or if it is just keeping me from being productive. Granted you shouldn't have to be productive ALL the time... Anyway, I decided to hire professional movers who can knock it out in 3 hours for $200. that way it will be done quickly, and I don't have to kill my back. I am getting too old for this! I just had my 34th birthday Saturday and Kevin took me to my favorite restaurant Ruth's Chris for a steak dinner and it was soooo goooood! So here I go, off on a new adventure!

    moving
I am surprised that I have stayed in one apartment as long as I have, but now it is time to move. I have been browsing new places to see what my money will buy, and my current roomate is interviewing my replacement. so I better get on it! I feel aprehensive and excited and dreading the work all at the same time. Usually when I start packing up, I already know where my new place is going to be so I look forward to it, but down in LA things turn over so fast that you have to put in your notice before you even know where you are going to move to. So I have put in my notice and hope hope...

    the party
It was fabulous of course. First, in order to find the place we drove down Hollywood Blvd in front of the Mann's Chinese Theatre where they had everything roped off and lit up for the movie premier of Walk Hard. Didn't see anyone famous but they had a red carpet and cameras and photographers and interviewers everywhere. We drive by the party place where the entrance was complete with bouncers and roped off entrance with a "list", which of course we were on. That alone would have been awesome, just to be on the "list". So I walk up to the gal checking names and she says name please and I tell her Lillian Schruhl (thinking maybe she should take my company name because my last name is hard to spell) and she says, oh you're from Style Violet go on in! well ok. so we go in and two gorgeous guys are checking ID's, we get past them and walk up this alley way that has fake snow blowing down and has real snow (man made) piled up on the sides with pine trees (cool! I had to touch it to see if it was real and it was cold and melting ice) We walk further and there is bar #1 with a crowd around it so we go up the stairs and into the club, where there is another bar (empty) so I get my free drink and ask where the coat room is... (no coat room) I kinda figured they wouldn't but it was too cold to go to the party without one. So I slung it over my arm. There were waiters coming around with Ho's devours :) sushi, chicken skewers, stuffed mushrooms, fresh mozzarella and tomato and basil sticks, COOKIES, shrimp, and this vegetable nut cheese combo thing that was really good. I don't eat seafood so a majority I passed on but made sure to get my fill of cookies chicken and cheese! There was such great people watching to be had! Pretty boys and girls, all dressed in a variety of outfits, some horrid some cute. There was a DJ playing music and some people were dancing, meanwhile I kept flagging down the waiters and having loads of fun chatting with Julie and talking about everyone at the party. We didn't stay long, it being a school night, and as we walked out I managed to get one more delicious cookie into my face! We said goodnight to the bouncers and as we passed a handsome well dressed man standing on the curb (assumed he was a chauffeur) he asked is that a private party you just came out of? And I smiled and said "Yes, yes it was" and walked off into the starry night. ok more was said, but it felt like that and I'm still smiling. Now I must admit that for my outfit I caved and wore LEGGINGS with short high heels (very 80's) but take my word, it worked for me being cold and all. And I didn't take any pictures cause I don't own a camera or even a camera phone. So you will just have to take my word for it! Gosh this post was long but I hope it was fun!

Going to a fancy Hollywood party tonight! I am so excited! The modelling agency that we use invited us to their Holiday party and the last party they had was awesome because of course a lot of the models came. Gorgeous men everwhere, awesome food that no one is eating because of course models don't eat (more for me!) swanky music and a chance to dress up in sparkles! Me and the boss lady are going and it should be fun, will report back tomorrow!

    lately...
My boss had her baby and it is a boy named Nolan Riley Bowen! I met him at the hospital last week and I held him for an hour and he slept and slept. I am going to his house tonight to get some more cuddle time and I will eat Papa Johns pizza dripping with garlic butter sauce. I looked at a batchelor apartment last night that cost $995 a month, boy what rip off. One small room for a grand, no character... talk about hole in the wall, the only good thing was that it came with a parking space, but street parking was ample. i'll be moving March 1st but have started browsing to see what my money will get me and also to explore more neighborhoods. I am playing with the idea of going back to a commuter lifestyle so that I can live in another area of Los Angeles to explore it further. The area I live in now is just okay... I think that I would like to live closer to restaurants and movie theaters though. Right now I live about two miles from little downtown culver city (which is really cute) i'd like to move even closer if possible or try out another town called sherman oaks which has a really nice mini mall with really good restaurants and a movie theater. I hope the future brings something nice!

    ancy pants
so i haven't posted in a while because nothing has changed in a while. and you know what happens when nothing changes in a while... i get restless and need to move. so I told my roomate that I am moving out March 1st. I plan on getting my own studio apartment that will probably cost $800 a month if I am lucky. I think I will stay in LA for a little while longer even if I change apartments and job and boyfriend. I like the weather and I think I could stick it out one more year down here. Gave the boyfriend the ultimatum, s@#$ or get off the pot. He has until New Years, he has asked for an extension, but after two years I think it's time to decide. I am looking forward to have a new space to live in on my own and I am looking forward to cooler temperatures (meaning 65-70)cool enough for jeans. we could really use some rain down here so if any of you would like to send some down... I'll get a few days off at Christmas so I think I will go to my parents house an snuggle in by the fire and read a book for a few days. Work has been really busy gearing up for the holiday shopping season so I will look forward to some time off. Had fun Saturday night at the boyfriend's work party! Costumes were required and there were a ton of people there. there were typical costumes, but then some really creative ones. I think my favorite was the huge yellow peep (like the marshmallow ones at easter) then there was this guy dressed like a garden gnome that was dancing to the live 80's music, it was hilarious! Yesterday got to see friends and bowled. Not doing so well bowling anymore, barely broke a hundred but had fun. that is all for now...

    Harry Potter goodness!
So I went to the Barnes and Noble party in Burbank with a few friends and had a blast! I was the only one in my group to have a costume on so I lent out my extra wands so they could play too. Badger's wand got lots of complements and I always enjoy saying I have connections to a wand maker! Would say 25% were dressed up, 40% had at least something potter on, and the rest were having fun with the glow in the dark harry potter glasses they were handing out for free. I heard someone say there was between 1500-2000 people there. Not quite sure if it was accurate, but there was a ton of people there. I saw an excellent senior Malfoy as a death eater with pointed cap and skull mask. He was really cool! Had the cane and everything. I got there too late to enter the costume contest but there were great Umbridge and Trelawny costumes entered. The starbucks inside the bookstore had special drinks and I had one called a Turtle something which was tasty. They had a version of butter beer, but it didn't have any caffeine in it, so I passed. We stayed up to 3am afterwards having a snack in an all night diner nearby, then the next day my friend Iris and I went and played golf. I managed to beat her by one point which is amazing because I have only played real golf a couple of times, but I have played a lot of mini golf and where she beat me off the tee I beat her putting. Saw a couple of movies with Kevin, Rattatooie (which was surprisingly funny)and Evan Almighty (which he worked on and got a credit for),then last night we went and saw Snow Patrol which was at a small outdoor venue and it was a lot of fun. Overall a busy but fun weekend!

Snowballing has ceased and life is a bit easier moneywise with some help from mom and dad. Now normally, my pride would never let anyone help me if I could do it on my own. And yes, I could make ends meet on my own, but I figured, they offered it and kept pushing it and trying to talk sense into me. and I thought to myself about the lesson I have learned over the years... these are people who love me, who have my best interests at heart. they are not someone who wants to trick me or make me unhappy, so it's time I started listening to them. Okay thirty three seems a bit late to start listening, but better late than never right? So I let them help, and they feel good about it, and I have some breathing room. I'll get to see Harry Potter this sunday and am debating on whether or not to dress, if not just a little bit in a costume... I really miss the costuming group in Seattle. It's just not as much fun without friends to run around in costumes with!

    England trip highlights
Logan was two weeks old, and hardly cried. I covered his little cheeks with kisses and filled his armpits with zerberts (rasberries?). The highlight of the whole "nother country" experience was at the kids school fair. They had live owls that you could pet and hold, and the CROCKERY SMASH booth. It cost one pound ($2) and you got four golf balls and a croquet ball to throw at a table full of plates bowls, pitchers and other assorted crockery. Pieces were flying everywhere! And not one person thought of the safety issues as kids were running around wily nily. oh, they had a tarp down and a back board... safe enough, but oh! the sound of smashing crockery was wonderful! My five year old nephew tried, but failed to hit anything on the table, oh well. I got to spend one day in London with my parents and we went on a ride of the Eye (huge ferris wheel looking thing), went into the National Gallery, and had dinner and a show (The Fiddler on the Roof). We also got a free concert as a quintet of string players played songs in Covent Gardens, that was so nice my mom and I both bought the CD. It was really nice to catch up with my sister and see my nephews and niece. They grow up so fast! One night I was babysitting and kept them up until 11pm watching the Goblet of Fire. I was scolded for letting them stay up so late, but how often do I get to sit up watching Harry Potter with the kids? All in all a great trip! Now back to real life, boo!
